Media is already Giddy about new Anti-Mormon Musical

Fox News is excited! So are most Mormons, they claim! It's the new Fiddler on the Roof.

Did Fiddler on the Roof have a song entitled 'F*ck You God'? In other songs, "disease-ravaged villagers lift their spirits by telling God what He can do to Himself (and in which orifices)." You won't see these little details mentioned in the Fox News puff piece, even though they quote other parts of that report. Fox claims most Mormons are actually excited to see the musical. They call it "our Mormon moment." The nay-sayers are just "a more conservative group who views the play as another instance of persecution."

Obviously this musical is just a political attack on Mormons because of Proposition 8.

Fox News gets this extremely wrong scope of Mormon opinion from one blogger, who coincidentally is pro-gay marriage, anti-Mormon, and pro-Aethiesm. Once again, the liberal media goes to anti-Mormons to get facts about Mormons, and they report lies. Fox calls him "a liberal member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" but this blog author is actually a self-proclaimed skeptic: "With shaken faith, he didn't find many informed or sympathetic local church members and therefore contemplated leaving the church. On the Internet he found communities antagonistic toward the LDS Church which didn't encourage him to stay either. Eventually he discovered intellectuals and publications such as Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought and Sunstone Magazine which acknowledged LDS controversies yet helped Dehlin decide to stay in the church."

This musical, by the creators of South Park, teaches "how stories made up on the spur of the moment become religious doctrine" according to Vogue. In other words it teaches us that the Book of Mormon is false and should be ridiculed. Like typical anti-Mormon productions it expounds on supposed Mormon doctrines like: "'God lives on a planet called Kolob' and 'in 1978 God changed his mind about black people'."

How exciting!

In the modern day, you can always judge how good and moral and praiseworthy an institution is by the negative company it keeps. Mormons certainly have their share of liberalized naysayers, which seems to indicate that they've got something going for them.

I suspect that this "musical" will get a Tony nod for it's "courage" and then disappear forever. The unfortunate problem is that Broadway's pretty much dead anyway.

Fox News is in bed with evangelical Christians. Thus, they will never stand up and report incidents of anti-Mormon bigotry, even when it comes from the political opponents of the Christian Right. The evangelicals are willing to "hold the cloaks" while the Left "stones" the Mormons.
