"Keep Your Doctor" Under Obamacare? Think Again.

Thursday, September 3, 2009

Obama promises "If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what."

Unfortunately, he cannot back his statement with facts. Here is why:

If a healthcare bill passes, employers have a few options. They can either keep the private insurance they provide to employees, cancel that private insurance and pay penalties, or switch their employees to the government plan. If they stop offering private insurance, or drop insurance coverage altogether, their employees won't be keeping their doctor or their health care plan as Obama promised. Obama has no way of knowing what these businesses are going to do and so far, the numbers estimated by both parties are proving this promise false. The outcome of all this rests on which public option, if any, makes the cut. As of now, there are several options floating around Washington. Some closely resemble Medicare. These will be very attractive to employers because they have cheaper premiums (they pay doctors and hospitals less). If this type passes, well over 100 million people will be switched to government care by their employer's decision.
The other public options resemble something closer to a private insurance company. If one of these passes, the number going to government care will be much less (but no less than 10 million even according to Democrat estimates!). So either way, MILLIONS of people who thought they would be able to keep their doctor and their plan are in for a surprise.

***The message here is that you cannot take Obama at his word. He has an agenda and he will say whatever he needs to get support.***

Pelosi is also saying today that there may not be a public option in this bill. Red Flag! She is saying anything she can to get votes. She continued to say that if a public option isn't included now, there would be a "trigger" to pass a "robust" public option later--this means it would resemble Medicare and over 100 million are likely to be signed up, drawing us even closer to an all-government system. Bottom line: if this passes, there will be a public option sooner or later. This bill must be stopped. Call your representatives!
