The Institution Formerly Known As Marriage

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. of the Ruth Institute has written a great article that gets right to the heart of the issue of redefining marriage:

The Institution Formerly Known As Marriage
by Jennifer Roback Morse
April 24, 2009

The Iowa court’s recent decision does not simply broaden marriage, it radically changes its nature. While marriage previously served public purposes of attaching mothers and fathers to their children and one another, now marriage merely serves as affirmation of adult feelings.

The Iowa Supreme Court recently proved that the critics of same-sex “marriage” are correct: we are not being urged to make marriage more inclusive, but to radically redefine the nature of marriage itself. With its decision, the Iowa Supreme Court covertly but profoundly changed the meaning of marriage. The Court abolished the essential public purpose of marriage, and replaced it with a new understanding of marriage that is neither essential nor public. The Institution Formerly Known as Marriage will be an empty shell in Iowa. As the movement to redefine marriage spreads across the country, citizens should look to Iowa to see what this actually entails.

The essential purpose of marriage is to attach mothers and fathers to their children and to one another. Absent this purpose, we would not need marriage as a distinct social institution. Human beings are not born as rational autonomous actors, they are the immature products of sexual relations between a man and a woman, and they need the assistance of adults to survive. Marriage exists, in all times and places, to solve this social problem. If our offspring were born as adults, ready to live independently, or if we reproduced through some form of asexual process, we would not need anything like marriage.

Marriage also has a profoundly social purpose. Marriage creates its own small society consisting of mother, father, and children. That small social unit contributes to the larger society by creating a functioning future—the next generation. Everyone benefits from having a next generation that can sustain the society and keep its institutions going. Even when I personally am old, and even if I have not had any children myself, I benefit from the fact that younger people are building cars and houses, providing medical and legal care, starting new businesses, and running old ones. In modern developed countries, the family also saves the state a lot of money by taking care of its own dependent young, rather than foisting that responsibility onto the taxpayers. Thus, the benefits of marriage go far beyond the benefits to the individual members of the family.

Perez Hilton: Miss CA Lost For Supporting Traditional Marriage

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Miss America judge Perez Hilton had said Miss CA, who was ahead in the rankings, lost the crown two days ago because she's "a dumb B*tch."

Recently he admitted that the judges, who had been preferring her up until Perez' political question, admitted: "The way miss California answered her question lost her the crown, without a doubt!

Contrary to what Perez claims, Miss California was wildly cheered when she answered that she supports traditional marriage and supports the privilege to vote and speak freely about this issue in America.

Miss America Mothers "Upset" After Judge Calls Pro-Marriage Contestant "Dumb B*tch"

Monday, April 20, 2009

I just received word from a source who has discussed the matter with multiple contestants and their mothers. They are upset that the Miss America pageant has broken from traditional and asked a lot of politically charged questions.

Recently Perez Hilton, judge for the contest and flaming gay activist, blasted Miss California for her pro-marriage answer to his gay marriage question, calling it "the worst answer in pageant history" and calling her a "dumb b*tch" with "half a brain." Miss California had said she respects everyone's belief and is grateful that this country allows free speech and people to vote.

Concerned parents of multiple contestants representing states expressed outrage yesterday that Perez asked the question. Miss America is about celebrating young womens' talents and beauty, not about making political points, they said.

Miss America Judge: Miss CA a "Dumb B*tch" For Opposing Gay Marriage

Radical gay activist Perez Hilton angrily lashed out against Miss California, Carrie Prejean, in this video, calling her response to his question "the worst answer in pageant history" and calling her a "dumb b*tch" with "half a brain." On his flamboyant website, Perez relented and said simply, "There is no right answer, but there could have been a much better answer!"

Miss California simply answered she respectfully thought marriage should be between a man and a woman, as you can see here. Perez claims the audience booed her, but you can clearly see she was cheered.

Despite the cheers, Prejean clearly lost the faux pageant because she courageously stood up for traditional marriage. You can't have anything on TV that doesn't include gay marriage propaganda these days. Miss America is just the latest media event to become an intolerant mouthpiece for the anti-religion cult.

Perez Hilton's hissy fit wasn't so much about Prejean's personal opposition to 'gay marriage.' In my opinion, he was more upset that she praised America as a place where people are free to speak and vote on such matters.

Obama Brings Hope... To America's Rivals

Sunday, April 19, 2009

This article by BBC caught my eye: Americas rivals see signs of hope

At the Latin America Summit, Obama shook the hand of anti-American, president-for-life Hugo Chavez with a wink and a smile. Chavez then gave Obama a copy of one of his favorite anti-American books. Obama considered this a "thoughtful" gesture, but then he thought that the book was written by Chavez himself. Today Obama bid his new best friend "adios Amigos!".

Stupid, but we can forgive that.

But wait! There's more!

When Nicaraguan Marxist President Daniel Ortega railed against the United States for more than an hour, Obama reacted by smiling and shaking his hand. He said he was grateful that Ortega "did not blame me" for America's evil nature. Obama then gave the wrong date for the Bay of Pigs Invasion, but that's beside the point.

Hillary was asked twice by FoxNews what she thought about the anti-American speech and she replied, "To have those first class Caribbean entertainers on all on one stage and to see how much was done in such a small amount of space, I was overwhelmed."

Obama is lifting the trade and tourism embargoes against communist Cuba, even though thousands of innocent political prisoners still rot in Cuba's jails. This breaks his promise early in the campaign that he would lift the injustice and oppression in Cuba.

But why should Obama care about innocent political prisoners? After all, he is continuing the Patriot Act, breaking another campaign promise, and expands CIA interrogations of political prisoners, breaking yet another campaign promise.

Video: LDS Prophet Warned Of Socialist Infiltration In 1966

Saturday, April 18, 2009

Ezra Taft Benson was also the Secretary of Agriculture under President Eisenhower. Here is an often-forgotten gem where he warns of news media lies, corrupt politicians, and perverted school education. This "socialist gospel," he warns, is designed to weaken our economy and implement communism in small doses.

Here Glen Beck gives his take on this prophecy.

"Have you counted the cost if our countrymen and especially the body of the Priesthood continue to remain complacent, mislead through some of our news media, deceived by some of our officials, and perverted by some of our educators?

Are you prepared to see some of your loved ones murdered, your remaining liberties abridged, the Church persecuted, and your eternal reward jeopardized?

I have personally witnessed the heart-rending results of the loss of freedom. I have seen it with my own eyes. I have been close to the godless evil of the socialist-communist conspiracy on both sides of the iron curtain, particularly during my years as European Mission President at the close of the war, and today and also during my eight years in the Cabinet.

It may shock you to learn that the first communist cell in government, so far as we know, was organized in the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the 1930’s, John Abt was there. It was John Abt whom Oswald, the accused assassin of President Kennedy, requested for his attorney. Harry Dexter White was there. Lee Pressman was there. And communist Alger Hiss, who was the principle architect and first secretary of the United Nations organizing committee, was there also.

I have talked face-to-face with the godless Communist leaders. It may surprise you to learn that I was host to Mr. Khrushchev for a half day, when he visited the United States. Not that I’m proud of it – I opposed his coming then and I still feel it was a mistake to welcome this atheistic murderer as a state visitor. But according to President Eisenhower, Khrushchev had expressed a desire to learn something of American agriculture, and after seeing Russian agriculture I can understand why.

As we talked face-to-face, he indicated that my grandchildren would live under Communism. After assuring him that I expected to do all in my power to assure that his, and all other grandchildren, would live under freedom, he arrogantly declared, in substance:

You Americans are so gullible. No you won’t accept Communism outright, but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you’ll finally wake up and you find you already have Communism. We won’t have to fight you. We’ll so weaken your economy until you fall like over-ripe fruit into our hands.

And they are ahead of schedule in their devilish scheme...

And now in this critical period, when many pulpits are being turned into pipelines of collectivist propaganda – preaching the social gospel and denying basic principles of salvation – is the time for action.

We know, as do no other people, that the Constitution of the United States is inspired – established by men whom the Lord raised up for that very purpose. We cannot – we must not – shirk our sacred responsibility to rise up in defense of our God-given freedom."

Obama Appoints Radical Gay Activist To Faith-Based Advisory

Friday, April 17, 2009

Obama appointed Harry Knox to his Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. A notorious militant gay activist who has championed gay marriage, Knox has labeled Pope Benedict XVI and Catholic bishops "discredited leaders." He has attacked anyone who opposes gay marriage, such as the Knights of Columbus, as "foot soldiers of a discredited army of oppression."

He has influenced pro-gay legislation in government and companies. Knox isn't ordained as a pastor, and has spoken of Paul's teachings as "not true."

Obama has also appointed Fred Davie, who is homosexual. He is president of Public/Private Ventures, which has nothing to do with faith or religion, but what does that have to do with anything?

Gallagher: We are winning the gay marriage war, but we must continue to fight for our families, our religions and our culture

From an extraordinary interview Maggie Gallagher did with Dallas Morning News columnist Rod Dreher:

Rod Dreher: Maggie, you and I are on the same side of the gay marriage issue, but I am pessimistic about our chances for success. You, however, are optimistic. What am I missing?

Maggie Gallagher: Vaclav Havel mostly. "Truth and love will prevail over lies and hate." On that basis Havel took on the Soviet empire. Where is that invincible empire now?

Same-sex marriage is founded on a lie about human nature: "there is no difference between same-sex and opposite-sex unions and you are a bigot if you disagree."

Political movements can--sometimes at great human cost and with great output of energy--sustain a lie but eventually political regimes founded on lies collapse in on themselves.

I don't think of myself as optimistic: just realistic. What does losing marriage mean? First the rejection of the idea that children need a mom and dad as a cultural norm--or probably even as a respectable opinion. That's become very clear for people who have the eyes to see it. (See e.g. footnote 26 of the Iowa decision.)

Second: the redefinition of traditional religious faiths as the moral and legal equivalent of racists. The proposition on the table right now is that our faith itself is a form of bigotry.

Despair is gay marriage advocates' prime message point. All warfare, including culture war, is ultimately psychological warfare. You win a war when you convince the other side to give up.

So now you want to decide we've lost on an issue where, in the March 12 CBS News poll two-thirds of Americans agree with us. I mean, does this make sense?

...People are flocking to the National Organization for Marriage (, not because we try to scare them about how bad things are going to be--but because we offer them a chance to come together with other people of all races, creeds and colors to stand up for a core and timeless good.

Here's what I know that maybe you can't see: There are enormous untapped energies out their waiting for someone to organize them effectively.

RD: It's my view that our side has lost this battle, at least in the long run, because we've lost the culture. Bottom line: I believe we should retreat to a strategically defensible position while there's still time. You disagree. What's wrong with my analysis?

MG: Rod, you are bargaining with yourself by saying "give up marriage and focus on religious liberty protections." The proposition on the table is your faith is a form of bigotry and Americans don't grant religious liberty protections to bigots.

Conceding the main point--that our marriage tradition is a good and honorable thing that deserves respect--is not going to help you win any religious liberty protection.

We need to build effective grassroots organizations in blue states. Or we are going to lose marriage. And religious liberty.

Abandoning the 60 percent or so of Americans who agree with you on marriage isn't going to help you win any fight at all.

We need to do a lot of things but one of the key ones is: we have to find the people who care about marriage and organize them into an effective force. Especially in blue states.

We don't do that, the churches are going to get rolled.

I don't have time for pessimism. The stakes are too high.

Catholic University Covers Jesus Sign At Obama's Request

Thursday, April 16, 2009

For Obama's talk, the White House pressured Georgetown University to cover up its Christian symbols

"Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram “IHS”--symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ—because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there."

The Department of Homeland Security sent this report to every police agency in the country. The 9-page document warns of imminant attacks from "right-wing" groups and individuals.

It claims these rightwing extremists exploit issues such as "abortion, inter-racial crime, and same-sex marriage. During the 1990s, these issues contributed to the growth in the number of domestic rightwing terrorists and extremist groups and an increase in violent acts targetting government facilities..."

"Right-wing extremism in the United States into those groups, movement, and adherants that are primarily hate-oriented... It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration."

"Many right-wing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration and its perceived stance on a range of issues, including immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities..."

It says such groups are typically "Christian Identity groups" who "stockpile food" in case of a natural disaster or catastrophe. Mormons? The document focuses mainly on taking away rights to own guns and ammunition. It also warns that veterans who just returned from combat are potential terrorists.

Has there been a single abortion clinic bombing or clearly right-wing attack since the early '90s? Read the entire document yourself. Atlas Shrugged broke this important story.

April 17th: Keep Your Kids Home From School!

Monday, April 13, 2009

Thousands of schools around the country will hold a "Day of Silence" on April 17th to show support and approval for the homosexual lifestyle. Religious organizations are forming a counterprotest in which students will stay home on that day.

I urge every parent to find out if their child's school is participating and if so to keep them home.

McCain's Daughter Champions Gay Marriage In GOP

Meghan McCain implored Republicans to "go gay," claiming "Republican resistance to gay marriage goes against conservative values—and our own self-interest."

Why, oh why can't we get these radical liberals to leave our party??

Gays Introduce New Blacklists Against Prop-8 Supporters

Sunday, April 12, 2009

Four automobile dealerships have recently been targeted for boycott in California's Coachella Valley because part-owners donated to Proposition 8. The hateful attacks are far from over, even if the violence and athrax mailing has subsided! Voting is not a right!

The local Democrat leadership commented, "You're not in Utah any more."

Obama Denies Detainees Habeas Corpus

Saturday, April 11, 2009

Huh? But I thought he made a big deal of releasing those Gitmo prisoners.

Well turns out that the Obama administration will appeal a ruling made last week by Judge John Bates "that allowed detainees being held by the US in Afghanistan to proceed with habeas corpus challenges [JURIST report] to their detention."

Study Finds Romney Lost Because He's Mormon

Dr. Matthew DeSantis, assistant professor of political science at High Point University concluded that "Mitt Romney's candidacy demonstrated that perhaps religion, and not race or gender, would be the final categorical barrier we must hurdle for becoming a completely tolerant nation." He finds that "Romney faced a moderate amount of opposition based purely upon his religious affiliation."

Leaked Email Reveals Obama Exploiting Veterans, Homeowners

Friday, April 10, 2009

CNN reports on the email accidentally sent to the press by a "sleep-deprived" staffer:

"The first section of the schedule noted that in the morning, Obama planned to talk with homeowners who have refinanced their homes and benefited from lower mortgage payments.

One staffer, recommending changes to that line, wrote to “put more emphasis on the real people aspect of this.”...

In another exchange, one staffer recommended nixing a line about Obama meeting with leaders from the Veterans Service Organizations and Military Service Organizations since the president was now meeting with them before his remarks in an event closed to the media.

“Can we keep it and just change it to say before. It[']s good for us to say we are meeting with them,” another replied.

Even though the email was sent to all the big media, CNN appears to be the only ones reporting this. To their credit, they also reported on the covered-up Obama bow to the Saudi King:

Obama Has Gay Plans For Easter

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

"The White House is allocating tickets for the upcoming Easter Egg Roll to gay and lesbian parents as part of the Obama administration's outreach to diverse communities...

White House officials said that tickets for Monday's Easter Egg Roll event were distributed to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organizations, but did not specify how many or to which ones. Representatives from Family Equality Council, Human Rights Campaign, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and other groups confirmed they were invited and encouraged to have their members participate."

Chinese Firm Indicted For Smuggling Nuclear Weapons To Iran

Obama had better call the UN!

"Morgenthau filed a 118-count indictment today against LIMMT Economic and Trade Co., and Li Fang Wei, a manager at the Dalian, China-based company. LIMMT is a major supplier of banned weapons to the Iranian military, Morgenthau said...

Between November 2006 and September 2008, LIMMT sent and received dozens of illegal payments through U.S. banks by using aliases and shell companies, according to a statement from Morgenthau’s office."

I'm sure the American banks had just no idea what was going on. Sure.

Watch who reports this and who doesn't, it will tell you who is bought by communist China.

US Soldiers Gets 25 Years In Prison For Killing Al Qaeda, Evidence Withheld

Sunday, April 5, 2009

Lieutenant Michael Behenna was sentenced to 25 years for killing a known Al-Qaeda member in Iraq, Ali Mansur, who allegedly had attacked and killed two U.S. soldiers. The government intentionally withheld evidence during the trial that would have kept Michael from prison:

Prosecution expert Dr. Herbert MacDonnell initiated contact with defense attorneys explaining his agreement with the testimony of Lt. Behenna and his presentation to prosecutors supporting Lt. Behenna’s version of events.

** Dr. MacDonnell is not called to testify in the case.

** Jack Zimmermann, defense counsel, asks prosecutors if they have any exculpatory evidence that should be provided to the defense (referring to Dr. MacDonnell’s demonstration). Prosecutors deny having any such evidence.

** Prosecutors withholding of this evidence allowed them to argue that Lt. Behenna executed Ali Mansur while seated when the forensic experts, including Dr. MacDonnell, agree that Ali was standing with his arms outstretched when shot

**Lt. Behenna is convicted of unpremeditated murder and assault.

Obama Aides Earned Millions From Bailed-Out Banks, Anti-American Companies

Saturday, April 4, 2009

"Lawrence Summers, a top economic adviser to President Barack Obama, pulled in more than $2.7 million in speaking fees paid by firms at the heart of the financial crisis, including Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Merrill Lynch, Bank of America Corp. and the now-defunct Lehman Brothers...

Thomas E. Donilon, Obama’s deputy national security adviser, was paid $3.9 million by the power law firm O’Melveny & Myers to represent clients including two firms that receieved federal bailout funds: Citigroup and Goldman Sachs...

And White House Counsel Greg Craig earned $1.7 million in private practice representing an exiled Bolivian president, a Panamanian lawmaker wanted by the U.S. government for allegedly murdering a U.S. soldier and a tech billionaire accused of securities fraud and various sensational drug and sex crimes.

Craig disclosed that his work for Williams & Connelly included representing Pedro Miguel Gonzalez Pinzon, a Panamanian lawmaker who allegedly murdered a U.S. soldier in 1992, as well as Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada, a former Bolivian president who has lived in exile since 2003, when clashes between protesters and the Bolivian military killed an estimated 70 people and wounded hundreds more.

Craig also listed among his clients Henry Nicholas, founder of microchip maker Broadcom, who is facing securities fraud charges in an alleged stock option backdating plot. In June, the government unsealed an indictment also detailing a raft of drug and prostitution charges, which Craig called “a kitchen-sink attack on Dr. Nicholas.”

Valerie Jarrett... indicated that she served as vice-chairwoman of the committee seeking to lure the 2016 Olympics to Chicago, which paid a public relations firm owned by Obama political guru David Axelrod and to which White House social director Desiree Rogers, another member of the Obama’s inner circle, donated more than $100,000."

Senate Votes Against Allowing Doctors To Decline Performing Abortions

Friday, April 3, 2009

Senate Democrats defeated the Coburn Amendment #828M yesterday. The legislation's purpose was to:

"To protect the freedom of conscience for patients and the right of health care providers to serve patients without violating their moral and religious convictions."

Senator Colbourn remarks:
"The budget includes a $634 billion reserve fund that the President has called a “down-payment” for health care reform...

Dating back to the “Church amendment” of 1973, health care providers are protected from discrimination if they object to participation in certain medical procedures based on moral or religious convictions.2 This law was strengthened in a 1996 Public Health Service Act amendment, which prohibits federal, state, and local governments from discriminating against health care entities and providers that do not provide, train in, or refer for abortions.3 In 2004, the Hyde-Weldon amendment, which has subsequently been approved every year since 2004, further reinforced this statutory intent4:

None of the funds made available in this Act may be made available to a Federal agency or program, or to a State or local government, if such agency, program, or government subjects any institutional or individual health care entity to discrimination on the basis that the health care entity does not provide, pay for, provide coverage of, or refer for abortions."

What Songs Should Obama Have Put On His I-Pod Gift To Queen Elizabeth?

Thursday, April 2, 2009

I guess an Ipod makes a better gift than DVDs that she can't even play.

Walmart must have been all out of Razor scooters. What was on the royal Ipod gift?

Ipods are made by Chinese women who earn £27 per month by the way. The best part is... the Queen already had an Ipod.

In a previous snub to America's closest ally, Obama also gave UK back the White House bust of Winston Churchill. Stay classy!

The DNA is Growing!

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

The marriage fight has been very public with the battles going on in the northeastern states lately. The opposition has targeted six states for major marriage fights. In these fights, the DNA has been instrumental in helping to get the message out from NOM, UFI, and other Marriage Advocates in this fight. Thank you for all you're doing! Even if these aren't our home states, what happens here, affects the entire nation. It may seem small, but these graphics, videos, letters, social networking and blogging efforts are doing a vital work in raising the visibility of marriage in the public eye. It's not enough to simply rely on the big organizations to do the heavy hitting for us. We have to be involved on a personal level, both for our own education and to give backup to the frontrunners. Our grass roots effort gives validation and authority to the bigger organizations. Without the people behind them, their efforts are empty. The interest we give them, the word of mouth buzz we contribute, all that combines to give them power and influence to act on our behalf. They are our megaphone.

The DNA is growing!

In the past few months the DNA has grown significantly from an organization of hundreds to an organization of thousands. It is wonderful to see so many volunteer their talents and time to this vital fight. You may have noticed some changes to the DNA homepage, new sections are being added like a link to Sto Pro Verum, a new stuff and buttons shop that was started by our members. It is being featured on the site to help get the message out. Also, the DNA has spread and diversified as we make use of the latent talents of our membership. Check out our groups and specializations on the Take Action! page.

Voice of the Nation

Most recently, the DNA and UFI have teamed up to launch a blog talk radio program called "Voice of the Nation", where we are furthering our reach into the national conversation. Shows air Thursdays from 2-3pm, and are archived by date for podcasting. This week we'll be having Brian Brown from the National Organization for Marriage on as our guest to talk about the battle for the north east states.

This is a great effort, and it will not be over in a moment. To the battle hardened, We need you! Thanks for sticking with the fight! For those of you just joining us! Welcome!

Together we are making a difference!

Angela RockwoodDirector, DNA
